A Tapestry of Hope: YIELD-Ethiopia Celebrates International Women’s Day 2026

From University halls to orphanages, see how the Catholic students and YIELD-Ethiopia united to celebrate the transformative impact of empowered women & girls.

On March 8, 2026, the YIELD-Ethiopia celebration for International Women’s Day became more than just an event—it became a powerful exchange of wisdom and witness. Held in Soddo, the day brought together a vibrant tapestry of the community, proving that when we empower a woman, we ignite a light that reaches every corner of society.

Voices of the Future: University & Youth Witness

We were honored to welcome the Wolaita Soddo University Catholic Students, who joined us not just as guests, but as witnesses. Female students took the stage to share stirring testimonies from their own villages, illustrating how one empowered woman can become a catalyst for a whole community's growth. Their message was clear: Empowering a girl today is an investment in the society of tomorrow.

A Story of Resilience: The Franciscan Sisters

One of the most touching moments of the day came from the children of the Orphanage run by the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady. A young student shared her life story, moving the audience as she described how the Sisters’ maternal care and holistic support helped her become a "clever student" and a leader in her school. Her journey is a living example of the "Integral Dignity" that YIELD-Ethiopia strives to provide.

A Global Perspective: IMCS Pax Romana

Adding to the significance of the day, Mr. Fasika Lachore, Secretary-General of the International Movement of Catholic Students (IMCS) Pax Romana, joined the celebration. Drawing from his global experience, Mr. Fasika shared deep insights into the indispensable contributions of empowered women within both the Church and broader society. His presence reinforced the "Makafel" spirit—reminding us that our local efforts in Soddo are part of a global movement for justice and dignity.

Support the Next Generation

The stories shared by the university students and the children of the Franciscan Sisters remind us that our work is never finished. Every donation to our Women’s Empowerment & Safety pillar helps us create more success stories like the ones we heard today.
